Finding the right casino is not as easy as you might think. Sure, all casinos offer slot games, casino games and live casino games to varying degrees. Some might have a few hundred, while others may have a few thousand. This means that it's not too hard to find the best Merkur casinos, Yggdrasil casinos, Play'n Go casinos and more!

But, is that all you need to consider? First, consider whether the mobile online casino has a license and is regulated. What about whether the casino accepts your currency? Even if they do, will they accept your preferred casino payment methods?

While there are many US dollar casinos and euro casinos, finding Russian ruble casinos are a little more difficult. Having said this, it is not impossible, and we present some options for you.

About the Russian Ruble

The Russian ruble ↱ (rouble) is the official currency of Russia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia (Russian Federation). It is divided into 100 kopeks and issued by the Central Bank of Russia. Russian rubles replaced Soviet rubles in 1992 and redenominated in 1998 due to the financial crisis.

The price of oil is a critical factor in determining the value of the Russian ruble. This is because Russia is one of the top oil-exporting nations.

In recent years, geopolitical tensions have also played a substantial role in the value of the ruble. The United States sanctioned Russia over their annexation of Crimea.

FAQ for Russian ruble at casinos

Gambling in Russia is illegal in all but four (4) regions since July 2009, according to Federal Law No. 244. The exceptions are Primorsky regions, Kaliningrad, Altai and Krasnodar.

The rapid growth in the availability of gambling houses and slot machines led to the federal gambling policy intended to protect society. Younger players exposed to gambling was causing concern. At one point it was estimated that there were close to 70,000 slot machines, 2,000 gaming rooms and 58 casinos in Moscow alone.

The law was intended to put an end to the explosive growth. However, gambling is still said to exist in establishments masking as lottery clubs, nightclubs and internet cafes. With the increase in mobile online casinos, some Russian players have opted to visit offshore operators who, contrary to Russian law, accept players from this country.

If you are a resident of Russia, we do not recommend breaking any Russian laws.

Interestingly, the Russian approach has been different to other European markets such as Sweden and Denmark that sought to regulate the market instead of ban it. Those countries created regulatory bodies called the Spelinspektionent and Spillemyndigheden, respectively.

Online casinos accepting RUB are safe, providing that you have taken some precautions. First, it is advisable to only play at a licensed and regulated casino by a reputable regulator such as the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), UK Gambling Commission UKGC or Spelinspektionen.

Regulated casinos must ensure fairness and transparency to protect the most vulnerable, including minors and compulsive gamblers. Games of chance will have their random number generators (RNG) tested to ensure that they are free from manipulation.

It's possible that the Russian ruble currency isn't accepted by some casinos. If you don't hold another currency such as US dollars, British Pounds Sterling or euros, then your best option is to use a casino that accepts rubles. Exchanging your rubles may be an option, but we don't recommend it since you will likely have to pay currency conversion fees, which can run you up to 5%.

It is possible to make real money ruble deposits and withdrawals. Remember that your choice of currency will also influence your payment options. There may be several globally recognised payment methods as well as locally available payment method options for your specific country.

Qualifying for an online casino bonus such as a sign-up bonus is usually more dependent on the casino's policy and the country that you reside in. You should find out what the casino's policy is on bonuses beforehand by reading the T&Cs or speaking to customer support.

Players with Russian rubles may be able to deposit to their online player account or withdrawal using an e-wallet such as Skrill or Neteller. More options may be available, but it all depends on the casino and your country of residence. Some casinos also offer Yoomoney as a payment method. If you're looking for a specific method, checl out our payments overview for more options.

To find out what options are available, visit the casino's cashier section after you've registered. Remember that the currency you use to make a deposit must be the same you use to withdraw. Anti-money laundering requirements make this a common practice. Suppose it's not possible to use the same method. In that case, the casino will usually process your withdrawal using a bank transfer.
